Madison Avenue Presbyterian Church
Day School

The MAPCDS faculty is comprised of a diverse, dynamic group of educators who bring a range of personal and professional interests and skills to their work. All teachers have advanced experience or degrees and a commitment to ongoing professional development. Teachers at Madison share a deeply rooted respect for children, who we see as capable beings, with unlimited potential.

We recognize the role of the teacher as multi-dimensional:

  • to support children’s social-emotional and cognitive growth by creating unique experiences that spark curiosity, exploration and discovery
  • to thoughtfully design the environment to reflect the identity of every child and adult in the room and to inspire joy and wonder in learning
  • to collaborate with children, by listening carefully and documenting their activity to uncover each child’s thinking
  • to create engaging curriculum which responds to children’s interests and extends their investigations to promote learning
  • to work as researcher, both in and out of the classroom, dedicating focused attention to each child’s processes, as well as to modern brain science (for example, mindfulness practices and the relationship between experiences in nature and children’s thriving, and the importance of empathy building and a sense of belonging in childhood) and consideration of teaching practices around the world which inspire our work as we provide an innovative first school experience
  • to collaborate with colleagues, to reflect on the children’s progress as well as our own practice
  • to partner with parents, bridging home and school for each family, recognizing and celebrating our commonalities and our differences

Our teachers work in teams of 2 or 3, ensuing the highest level of personal attention to each child. They are supported by our Director, Associate Director and Education Coordinator, who meet weekly with each team to discuss individual and group goals and curriculum development. Educators are drawn to MAPCDS for our commitment to children and families and to our recognition of teachers as bright, caring, creative beings who each impact our school community. Take a look at our staff bios below to learn more about the people who make The Madison Avenue Presbyterian Church Day School unique.
